Beginnings

Since 2020, Ian has worked as a professional and indie theatre artist working across Canada in various capacities.

From a very young age, Ian has been engrossed with their hometown of North Bay’s local community theatre scene. Starting out as a performer before delving into work backstage; Ian has been a long time volunteer, event organizers, and community member of the local theatre community, working with Local theatres and organizations such as the ON THE EDGE Fringe, Dreamcoat Fantasy Theatre, Gateway Theatre Guild, and Good Pine Productions.

Ian continues to split their time between North Bay, Ontario and Montreal, staying connecting to the distinct arts community of Northern Ontario and expanding their practice in the North.



Founding dense & Stage

In 2023, Ian co-founded Dense & Stage with Montreal-based artist and collaborator Abi Sanie. Founded as a queer and neurodivergent indie collective, the two begun with the launched their first production as a company, ‘Cornflake’ written and produced by Ian McCormack and directed by Abi Sanie, before taking the story on a multiple province fringe tour.

As producer, Ian took on the role of tour manager, financial planner, production assistant, and driver as the company took the show across Eastern Canada!

As Artistic Producer

Since founding the collective and taking on the role of artistic producer, Dense & Stage Theatre Collective (DSTC) has emerged a prominent force in Indie English Theatre in Montreal, making groundbreaking work while partnering with queer/disabled community groups and organization (L’Astérisk, Inspirations News, etc.) and advocating for accessibility, inclusivity and systematic change in our industry by focusing on how we support disabled artists.

In January 2025, DSTC premiered its 2nd production, ‘Alice in 24’, a queer and neurodivergent adaptation of Alice in Wonderland which had a sold-out run at the Mainline Theatre. Combining elements of circus, drag, and physical theatre, the company collaborated with over 30 queer/disabled artists, designers and musicians.

In May 2025, DSTC will premier ‘The Shortest and Sweetest of Songs’, their 3rd Production and 1st Co-Production with PACT Company Teesri Duniya Theatre.

Theatre By The Bay – Indie Producer Program

In Summer of 2024 partook in the Indie Producer Co-op Program at Theatre By The Bay, under in the direction of Iain Moggach, then taking on the role of Associate Producer for the 2024 Simcoe County Theatre Festival.

Upon the departure of Moggach as Artistic Director and the other members of the longtime administrative team, Ian has cut ties with the organization, as well.
